Airfoil Design, Analysis,
and Testing
Airfoils Incorporated is a consulting firm founded by Dan M. Somers, an internationally recognized expert with over 40 years of experience designing airfoils for wind turbines, fans, and aircraft.
Specialized Expertise in Airfoil Design
Airfoils Incorporated specializes in airfoil design, analysis, and testing, including high-lift systems. Consultation in general aerodynamics is also available.
Founder Dan M. Somers has designed over 30 airfoils for applications including wind turbines, fans, and aircraft using the Eppler Airfoil Design and Analysis Code. His work is documented in nearly 60 publications, including NASA Technical Papers, NREL reports, and AIAA journal articles.
Before founding Airfoils Incorporated, Dan spent 15 years at the NASA Langley Research Center, where he co-developed the Eppler Code with Richard Eppler of Universität Stuttgart.
Capabilities
Airfoils Incorporated handles each phase of the process — design, analysis, and wind-tunnel verification.
Airfoil Design
Custom airfoils designed using the Eppler Airfoil Design and Analysis Code. Dan has produced the S8xx families for NREL wind turbines, the NLF series for general aviation, and airfoils for UAVs, sailplanes, and industrial fans.
